Hearing on Tax Credits for Private Schools
Coming up for the week of Feb. 8th.
The House Education Committee is expected to debate HB 2457, which expands the tax credit for low to middle income students..
Our concern with the expansion of the tuition tax credit includes: expanding the credit from 70% to 100%, non-accredited schools and individual home schools are eligible, no accountability measures in place, additional cost that the program adds to an already short state general fund and the expansion from low to middle income students. It is interesting to note that the tuition tax credit issue has never passed the House floor by itself. The issue was inserted into the 2014 education funding bill by a House/ Senate conference committee
