Nuss explains why Supreme Court involved in school funding

“For the first time in 60 years, a Kansas Supreme Court Chief Justice visited Liberal Thursday.

Lawton Nuss made the long trip from Topeka to Southwest Kansas and attended several community events, including the Council of Governments.  Nuss explained the roles and responsibilities of the highest court in Kansas as well as addressing some of the cases the court will be hearing soon.

School funding
Some have accused the court of stepping beyond its authority when addressing issues like school funding, but Nuss said the role of the Kansas Supreme Court is defined by the Kansas Constitution, and the justices are performing their roles as prescribed by law.”
