SHAWNEE MISSION SCHOOL DISTRICT TO OPPOSE EQUITY FOR OTHER SCHOOL DISTRICTS
“It appears that SMSD is going to try to go on record opposing SFFF and equity for the less wealthy districts in the state. It also seems to me that they are a little late to the party. The case was filed in 2010 and tried in 2012. They were offered the opportunity to participate at the beginning and elected against supporting other school districts. Now, all of a sudden, they want a voice, and a negative voice at that. Dr. Hinson assured me personally that SMSD was supportive of equity. He pledged not to seek an increase in LOB until LOB was equalized for all, but I guess he has changed his mind. All SFFF is seeking is that the legislature keep its promise and comply with the Supreme Court mandate. Fully fund equalization as the constitution requires. This “float only our boat” mentality is harmful to Kansas kids. “
